Aaron McKinney risks the death penalty for the horrible homicide of Matthew Shepard, the gay student killed in Laramie, Wy. (U.S.A) on the 9th of October 1998.

"Mettere chiunque a morte per l'uccisione di Shepard è soltanto altrettanto barbarico che legare la vittima ad una staccionata e lasciarla morire al freddo"

"Putting to death somebody for the murder of Shepard is as barbaric an act as was tying the victim to a fence and leaving him to die in the cold"

Sarebbe bello e importante che la mobilitazione generale scaturita per Matt si ripetesse anche per chi l'ha ucciso, perchè l'omofobia si combatte con la conoscenza, non con altra violenza. Le organizzazioni omosessuali che si trovano ogni giorno a combattere per il riconoscimento dei diritti dei gay, dovrebbero essere in prima fila contro la pena di morte, perchè in fondo si tratta della stessa battaglia di civiltà.

It would be a great thing if the general mobilisation that occured for Matt were to repeat itself for his assassins, because homophobia is combatted, not with more violence, but with understanding. Gay and lesbian organisations find themselves fighting daily for the recognition of homosexual rights, therefore they should be first in line to oppose the death penalty, because it's really about the same battle for civility.

E sarebbe bello e importante che alla comunità gay si unissero altre associazioni di tutti i tipi e categorie, e singole persone, per far sentire forte la condanna ad un atto tanto barbarico come la pena di morte, perchè nessuno può uccidere nessuno, nemmeno in nome della legge.

And it would be an important step if the gay comunity united with other associations of all shapes and forms, and individuals, in order to make a strong stand against such a barbaric act as the death penalty, because no-one can kill another, not even in the name of the law.
